Quiet together

Our oldest daughter could not go to sleep tonight. I offered to lie down with her. Meanwhile, I was wracking my brain trying to think of self calming techniques to teach her. No matter what I suggested, it led to more animated stories and distractions on her part. Finally, I said I would stay with her as long as we were both silent. She fell asleep within minutes. In those quiet moments together, I realized that there is something pretty powerful about being quiet together. Sometimes having another being affirm the quiet space is just enough to let go of distraction.
