Par for the course

My parents own an old Adirondack farm house. It is incredibly beautiful and well cared for however it is also home to a few bold mice and chipmunks who relish in the many cracks and crevices that come with a house of this vintage. Mealtime means washing the plates before and after dinner and an occasional furry friend scampering across the living room is par for the course. Whenever we visit, our idea of normal inevitably shifts. We enjoy the lake and water as well as the occasional “friend”. This is akin to the mental shift that takes place when working in a new school, traveling abroad or even just experiencing the change of seasons. Once we can shift our idea of “normal,” we can begin to appreciate our surroundings regardless of the components.
