Christmas hike

After a morning of flying wrapping paper and ribbons, we headed out for a hike on nearby trails to work out the Christmas wiggles. While my wife Laura and I were attempting to keep the whole clan moving forward, our almost four year old paused regularly to contemplate tiny mushrooms sprouting on a log, by gone bridges and curious tree bark. While part of me itched to admonish the straggler with a, “hurry up, we’ve got to keep moving,” another part of me was forced to stop. The point of Christmas is not to rush through it, but rather to ponder, reflect and examine the gifts of the moment…whether those gifts show up as family, comfort food, new socks or new birth.
