Beautiful things

Today I cried in front of teenagers. We were at church, rehearsing, “Beautiful Things” by Gungor. We arrived at the point where the lyrics go, “you make beautiful things out of the dust…” All of a sudden, tears just started dripping down my face. At that moment, I realized that phrase summed up my reason for being. As a special educator, queer mom, artist and woman on a spiritual journey, I spend everyday attempting to unearth the beauty from the “dust.” Some days are a whole lot easier than others.
