“Dowan you’ve got to stand before you walk,” my seven year old coached one of our twins today. As Dowan attempted to stand then fall flat on his face and start over again, it occurred to me that what he was doing was analogous to the first day of school. While teachers like me would like to hit the ground running, we have to take the time to learn how to stand first. Practicing procedures such as how to line up in line order, how to write headings and empty the recycling all add up to a strong foundation from which fluid movement is possible.
How do you stand before walking in your life and work?
