How soon we forget

I just came back from the hospital where I had the privilege of holding a newly hatched baby. He was absolutely gorgeous and made tiny squeaking and grunting noises that I hadn’t heard in seven months. Seven months doesn’t seem like a long time from the outside, but it is plenty of time to forget what holding a newborn baby is like, as well as the precious little sounds. Seven months is also enough time to forget what our students were capable of doing at the beginning of the year compared to their accomplishments now. How soon we forget the past in favor of our current reality.
